Results from the Hutchinson Study of High School Smoking Group-Randomized Trial"

Art Peterson, Ph.D.
Youth Smoking Studies, Cancer Prevention Program, FHCRC, and Department of Biostatistics, Univ. of Washington

The Hutchinson Study of High School Smoking was undertaken to test (1) a proactive approach for outreach to teen smokers, and (2) proactive telephone counseling using Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Skills Training for helping teen smokers to quit.  This talk will report and discuss the positive results for this trial (published 10/21/09 in two companion papers in JNCI), including possible implications for dissemination, for existing nationwide telephone quit lines, and for further research.
